Oktoberfest!
A word of reminder: ~it’s an event that involves a lot , a lot of alcohol~
Oktoberfest started off on 26th September and the event lasts until 12th of October (not very sure of the actual starting & closing date of the event, shall start asking Germans on IRC later). Basically, Oktoberfest is where millions of beer drinkers from around the world will come to the Bavarian capital Munich for the world’s famous beer festival!
Below is an excerpt I found in the Internet that explain what Oktoberfest is all about. Geez. How I wish I’m in Munich right now. Not for the beers only but for the food also bah. According to one of the articles I read in MSN about Oktoberfest, the government of Germany actually provided more than a thousand toilets *coughing* washrooms to cater for the massive amounts of people coming from all around the globe. I can see why…With all the beers available on their left and right, gulping beers non-stop until the end, people really need to P!!!
“Oktoberfest is an annual fall festival which takes place in Munich, Germany. It is associated with the consumption of large amounts of beer and traditional German foods, along with general merrymaking. With a few exceptions due to wars, Germans have celebrated Oktoberfest every year since 1810, although the early version of the event was dramatically different than the modern incarnation. Many communities with a large German population host their own versions of Oktoberfest every year, encouraging people to celebrate German heritage and join together in fellowship.
The first Oktoberfest was actually a horse race, held to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig I and his wife Therese Saxe-Hildburghausen. The race was such a success that the Germans decided to repeat the event, adding a fair as well, and slowly but steadily, beer entered the mix, eventually becoming the major feature of Oktoberfest. The horse races were dropped in the middle of the 20th century, but it is still possible to purchase a wide range of crafts at the fair, when it happens at the same time as Oktoberfest.
The center of modern Oktoberfest is Theresienwiese, “the field of Therese.” Large tents are erected on the field by many famous German breweries, who serve beer which is enjoyed by attendants of the event. The tents also typically have bands playing German music, and people can wander around tasting different beers, listening to music, eating classic German and Bavarian foods, and looking at traditional crafts. Many people also like to dress in traditional Bavarian costume when they attend Oktoberfest, to get into the spirit of things.
One of the most distinctive features of Oktoberfest is a dark, rich beer called Maß, which is traditionally served in quarter gallon (one liter) tankards. The price of this beer is often a topic of discussion among aficionados of the event; it can be an indicator of general economic health, and price hikes are of course always a subject for complaint. The event opens with the Mayor of Munich ceremonially tapping a keg of Maß, and it lasts for 16 days. During Oktoberfest, huge crowds descend upon Munich, making it the largest fair in the world. Look at the size of these Oktoberfest beer mugs. They’re huge. Gigantic! I wonder if I can get a beer mug as big as this in Cock & Bull. These beer mugs look like they’re the same size as the beer jugs they have there! Will look funny though if i have my beer poured to one of these. It will look like as if I’m drinking directly from the jug! *Rolling on the floor laughing*. Maybe I’ll ask Corn to have her beer poured to an Oktoberfest beer mug too!! Cheers everyone!
2nd day of Raya. Holiday still. woohoo.
I decided not to go anywhere today for any Raya open houses. Still too tired from yesterday’s Raya. I had too much of food and my tummy feels bloated, but I can still remember the oh-so-good taste of Kek Lapis I had at Dr. Harith’s house. Yum yum
. Nothing much to do at home, became too bored watching TV, so what else do I do? Haha. I blog. I’m just so plain lame. Maybe I should go do something exciting but what??..hmm.. Nahhh..it’s too hot outside for any activities
Maybe I’ll just go out with mum later in the evening..hmm.. yah.. I should go out and window shopping at least. I’m officially lame. Huhu.
Oh now I remember! I should be doing some research on this FOREX thing. Promised Hakiim I’ll get back to him about this investment thing after the Raya holidays (see my email to him below. I so did promised him. Adui bah). I’m bad at keeping this kind of promises as I will keep procrastinate and people will get so pissed off at waiting. He sent me an email with a few attachments and graphs that I should be looking at to get an idea on how this FOREX thing will reap out good profit.Invested in the stock market but with the current global condition, aisehmen..$$ tidak jalan! Ahh! Stress!
“Thank you for mail and I appreciate the detail information. I am not so familiar of how FOREX works but it sure does sound very interesting. Please give me some time to go through your mail and graphs/attachments. I will certainly do so by next week as I have more time to glance through (since we will be having our Raya holiday). I have difficulty in slotting in other personal related things during my working period. I have such bad time management (should be improving very soon though). Are you into this two-way market now? How is the profit in real sense? RM133,000 is a figure which for me sounds too bombastic for beginners like me. Hahahaha! Please let me know if it has been a very good investment for you. Let me know how much I need to invest and how much will I get. I prefer the simple “Kedai Kopi” talk. Hahaha. I’m a bit slow when it comes to dealing with numbers and figures and may need your time to make me understand thoroughly. If I see potential, there is no harm for me to try this (will start small. *smirks*) P/s: Send my regards to your wife. Oh I so envy you two
“
From my email to him, it looked like I really promised to get back to him. But I don’t see the word “promise” there. Hahaha. Me and my ignorant-self. Since it involves money, ok lahhh…nanti sy tengok lah. This friend of mine is now staying and working in KL.He’s a Sabahan. He just recently got married with a very nice KL girl. Mua, him & his wife studied in the same college (all of us are the same age) So I guess they found each other and a few years after we completed our studies, they decided to wait no more. Kahwin lagi bagus! Hahaha. Honestly, I am really really touched as they came from two very different worlds. He had made a very big sacrifice and I know he love his wife so much that nothing else really matters when he made that big decision. I envy them. I want to be able to take that huge step in my life as well.
